OUI LOVE – Tour '09
Introducing a new interactive hub for French music, + 4 new French live
acts to the UK – Fortune, Second Sex, Nelson and Kid Bombardos
French music portal *Oui Love* is set to launch across the
UK and online this autumn, bringing with it to a town close to you some
of the hottest and freshest Gallic talent around.
Oui Love's outlook this autumn is two-fold:
* Firstly, Oui Love and its partners will be bringing over some of
the best new French talent currently inhabiting the country that
has brought us Serge Gainsbourg, Edith Piaf, Daft Punk and
Sebastien Tellier.
* Secondly an online hub myspace.com/ouiloveexchange will be
launched inviting people to voice their opinions on their
favourite French artists of all-time, what they're hooking up to
their soundsystems right now, and ultimately competitions to get
on the Oui Love tour itself.
But don’t look upon this as a French invasion though – think of it as
more of a collaboration. As Europe blends ever closer in political
terms, Oui Love is pollinating the UK music scene, and not just for the
600,000 French people who live here. The operation will focus heavily on
online media and universities, with the tour passing through many main
music college towns as well as playing several independent record
instore gigs, getting students and music fans alike involved in the project.
In exchange for getting involved in OuiLove's activities online and
throughout the tour, people will be offered a thrilling new Oui Love
compilation featuring many of the best new French acts. Featuring songs
from the likes of dance duo The Shoes (XFM’s remixers of the year),
anthemic alt-rockers Phoenix, and the lo-fi disco of Flairs and Naïve
New Beaters, this compilation is one that fans of music from across the
board will want to get involved in.
In October Oui Love will also be launching a contest for musicians to
create their own cover version of a French classic in return for a place
on the next Oui Love tour in March 2010 and a return ticket to Paris.
C'est fantastique!
And so, bands playing the inaugural Oui Love tour in October are:
Fortune myspace.com/ilovefortune
Fortune are electro-popsters of the finest variety – you may already have heard their track 'Bully' on a
Comet advert in the UK. Catchy as hell, and coupled with the kind of
dancefloor beats you'd expect, Fortune have a new EP Highway out in October.
Second Sex myspace.com/secondsex
With a million and a quarter + hits on MySpace and signed to Because France, these guys have their own brand of rock à la The Hives plus a gaggle of screaming girls, with all the kids getting down and taking rock 'n' roll back to where it belongs. Get your leathers out.
Nelson myspace.com/nelsonrock
Nelson: perhaps not the most French name on the tour, but don't be fooled, these chaps have a sound ranging from early Animal Collective to definite Factory Records vibe. Their new demos are outstanding, and we can't wait to hear more from these young Parisians
Kid Bombardos myspace.com/kidbombardos
The youngest of any of the bands touring this autumn, the band hail from Bordeaux, a French city known for its fantastic wines and rock bands. The Strokes have played a part in the development of this band for sure, and thank goodness for that.
The compilation will be available on the Oui Love platform:
